Not that I don't want another Sleepaway Camp Movie, but I know if anyone makes it .. it will be horrible.

Horror Movies aren't the same anymore, I recently wrote a term paper for my media class; on the horror genre. In my research I drew many parallels. One section was based entirely on the evoloution of horror . . from the silent pictures made in Germany during the turn of the century . . to the modern movies like the Faculty (1998), or Disturbing Behavour (1998)

During this there is a definite pattern that horror follows. There are the all out thrillers, then a period where there are horrible movies made (during this time, the sci-fi and horror genres mix) then there is a movie that will catapult the thriller back in the spotlight, and so the circle begins again .. . there are may intermediate steps, but I don't want to bore you.

Sleepaway Camp was made just after an explosion of movies like The Exorsist (1976)and Rosemary's Baby (1977), and movies of the same idea, these movies created the explosion, then entire horror genre took a turn that no one expected it to take. . . The tradtional "bad guys" who were the killers were seen as "good guys" ie) Halloween (1979), Friday the 13th (1980), and movies like that. Sleepaway Camp was "in my opinion" one of the greatest, simply because it used the charm of the very first slasher movie "Targets" (1968) by not revealing the killer until the very last possible moment, plus it used whatever money it did have on the story and not actors to sell the story.

Sleepaway Camp 2 and 3 were made during a time at which the flame had almost burn out on the genre, the audience became desensitized to the supreme evil figure (Jason, Freddy, Micheal etc.) The idea was simply worn out. This is when the sci-fi came back to horror movies. Then came Scream (1995) and the ideas came flowing out again, unfortunatley, this glittering moment for horror movies lasted only 3 or 4 years .. is it still kicking?? Nope, because no-one wants to see a low-budget film anymore . .. (FYI: There are over 1,500 horror movies made each year, with a budget of under $4,000 "US") This is from People magazine 1996.

So you see, the time has passed for another Sleepaway Camp movie. Plus the idea has been worn out . . sorry campers, but let us live the movie in it's glory to the highest, we all know that it won't be the same . . hell SC2 and SC3 were bad enough, let's not push for another movie.
